Safari - First Full Pass of Acid3

Well, this is certainly some exciting news. As a web developer I love to see someone getting close to the set standards. Safari has a perfect 100 now (Thank you Apple!) with Internet Explorer having a not so perfect 14. But that’s to be expected from Micr$oft.

It’s so aggravating when you develop a site and it works in every browser, Opera, Safari, FireFox, Sea Monkey, and all the others including some of Internet Explorer - but there is just one version of Internet Explorer that it does not work in.

99.9999% of the time this is not the web developer’s problem, but another case of Micro$oft’s sloppy programing and their general “I don’t care about standards if we didn’t set them” attitude.

New Google / t-mobile Phone

The first Google Android phone was announced today with t-mobile. There have been many attempts to come up with a cell phone that rivals the iPhone. Spint has one (Who would ever use Sprint?), Verizon has one (Their network really is the best) and even ATT has other phones. But so far no one has even come close. However, I think the new Google/t-moble G1 comes the closest any phone has to rivaling the iPhone. It’s the only one that has the features. The only one that has ability to have applications. That’s what I like, the fact it is open source. I think that eventually, there will be an Android phone that rivals the iPhone, but just not yet - close though. I will admit it has tempted me to switch to t-mobile as they have recently come into my market. more info at: http://www.t-mobileg1.com

CBS New Show - Worst Week

If you like comedy, you’ll probably love this show. Losely based on an older show and movie some say, it premered last night on CBS. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but last night I was exasted and decided to take a few hours off, switched on CBS and watched Worst Week. You can watch it online at: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/worst_week/

OK, not totally true, but funny

And we don’t need more taxes! The funny thing is, it was the GOP who gave us taxes in the first place. Recently someone realized that we were still paying a tax on telephone bills for funding WWI! I think fair-tax is a good idea. Just sales tax, nothing else.

Geico Ads - Hilarious

I saw this ad on TV recently. Very creative, hilarious I think. I don’t use Geico, have in the past but I have my insurance with State Farm and AIG. Anyhow, here’s the ad:

In an advertising class at college we were looking at early advertising. Much of it started as shows - it was entertainment - space filler. So many ads now are just annoying. It’s nice to see one that makes you laugh!

Microsoft flops again - not even 300 million can help

Well, this is kind of embarissing for Microsoft. Someone looking at the newest ads found that Microsoft had them made on a Mac! Then if that was not bad enough, they did not even use thier own software (SilverLight) which runs on Mac and Windows, but instead used Adobe’s CS3. Now, how can you be saying “mine is better! (but I won’t use it myself!”?

Read more at AppleInsider: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/09/19/microsofts_im_a_pc_campaign_created_with_macs.html

Then to make matters worse, the ad is advertising PC not windows. Opps! Another bad, because Micro$oft does not make PCs they make windows.

Then we have the Mojave Experments where Microsoft unwittingly portrays the general public as morons that they can pull a fast one over on telling them they are using the next version of windows when really it is Vista to “prove” that people just think Vista is bad. The problem here, is that the people are not using it themselves, but are being showed by a tech. I asked if I could get a tech with Vista and they said they may realease them with the next update (when they fix the dependency on DOS).

Then to make matter worse, we have the Seinfeld ads that are supposed to make Bill Gates seem like one of us! Ha! All it did was teach us that he can wag his butt, buy cheap shoes, and look like a withdrawn dork. Then the one where they move in with a family and end up getting kicked out!

What a waste of 300 million dollars!
